Mozilla has announced that it will discontinue Firefox Reality, the virtual and augmented reality web browser it launched in 2018. The company will remove the browser from the app stores in a few weeks.
Last days for Firefox Reality
The company launched Firefox Reality to offer a web browser designed to work in virtual and augmented reality headsets. Stating that they are at the forefront of developing new technologies such as WebVR and WebAR, Mozilla said that they aim to help develop new technologies and place these technologies in other communities and organizations.
Although Firefox Reality is being discontinued, the browser will continue under Igalia, in line with the company’s initial guidelines. Free software consultancy Igalia will release the Wolvic browser, based on the source code of Firefox Reality, next week.
Firefox Reality is currently available on the Oculus Quest headset, HTC’s Viveport platform, Pico standalone VR headset, and Microsoft’s HoloLens mixed reality headset.
