We Are Social, which shows the type of device with the most internet access all over the world, the consumption of news on the internet and the countries that believe most in the news they see, has published the second part of its report today. In the second part of the report, the focus was on social media platforms.
The newly released report includes information such as the total time we spend on social media, the social media platform we use the most, and what we do on social media. Let’s take a closer look at the tables in the report.
Most used social media platforms:
The table, prepared according to the data of Kepios, showed that the most used social media platform is Facebook, although it is considered dead today. YouTube took the second place and WhatsApp took the third place in the list, which was led by Facebook with 2.9 billion active users. TikTok is in the sixth place of the list.
How often do we use social media?
According to the table above, where Data.ai’s data is compiled, TikTok is the social media platform we use the most on a monthly basis. While YouTube is in the second place, Instagram, which has been asked to go back to the past days, is in the fifth place of the list.
SensorTower’s data above shows daily social media usage. Unsurprisingly, TikTok was the name at the top of this list. YouTube took the second place and Instagram took the third place.
SensorTower’s data above shows the rate of Android users opening social media apps every day. Accordingly, 39% of those who have Instagram installed on their phone open the application every day. This rate is 29% for TikTok, and Facebook is third with 27%.
But what are we doing on social media?
The data compiled by GWI showed what we did while we were on social media, in short, for what purpose we used the applications. Accordingly, 71.3% of Facebook users use the application to chat with their friends and family. While the main purpose of use on Instagram is to share a photo or video, on TikTok we are in search of entertaining content. Twitter and LinkedIn serve as platforms where we follow current events.
We are not loyal to a single social media platform:
Other data compiled by GWI showed that almost none of us is loyal to a social media platform. The percentage of those who are loyal to only one social platform is seen in the highest WhatsApp users. This application is followed by YouTube and Facebook.
Summary of social media usage in the world:
According to this shared general table, there are a total of 4.70 billion social media users all over the world. While this number has managed to increase by 227 million in just one year, the average daily time we spend on social media is 2 hours and 29 minutes. In addition, according to the data, 75% of those over the age of 13 and 93.6% of internet users use social media. The share of women in social media use is 45.7%.
