In July, it was said that Instagram’s Threads platform would be a great success and would pose a real threat to Twitter, which Elon Musk changed its name to “X”. At first, it really looked like it would, as 100 million people signed up for Threads in the first five days.
However, it seems that even less than half of the people who signed up for these Threads did not stay on the platform, they left. According to the audio recording, which is said to have been recorded at a business meeting, Meta boss Mark Zuckerbergi stated that more than 50 million of the 100 million users who downloaded and signed up for Threads left the platform.
Still exceeded expectation
In an audio recording of a business meeting, allegedly by Reuters, Zuckerberg stated that they admitted that Threads was not quite where they wanted it yet, but that less than half of the 100 million people remained active on the platform, exceeding their expectations.
The decline in Threads usage was described by Zuckerberg as a natural occurrence: “Obviously, if more than 100 million people joined, it would be great if all or even half of them stayed here. We haven’t gotten to that point yet. As the platform expands, so will the user rate. A search feature and Threads desktop application will be two of the additions in this direction.”
According to Threads Product Manager Chris Cox, the site needs more retention-enhancing features to entice users who leave Threads to come back. What are you thinking? Please do not forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments.
