US pharmaceutical company Moderna announced that it has developed an mRNA Covid-19 vaccine with a more effective formula against the Omicron variant. It was determined that the vaccine showed stronger immunity against Omicron. It was stated that the vaccine, which will be administered as two booster doses, will start mass production in August and will be available in the autumn.
The Omicron variant has been around for a long time. Coronavirus vaccines developed with mRNA technology, such as Moderna and BioNTech/Pfizer, are less successful than other vaccines against Omicron. For this reason, more effective vaccine studies against Omicron were started by Moderna and BioNTech. Moderna planned to make the new vaccine available in early 2022, but studies have been slower than expected. The newly formulated vaccine will be available in the fall.
