As you know, Xiaomi continues to stay on the agenda regarding both Android 14 and MIUI 15 updates. So much so that it was claimed in the past hours that the company will switch to MiOS and MIUI 14 will be the final version. Now, amidst this confusion, Xiaomi is rolling out a long-awaited feature for MIUI 14 supported devices. Users will now be able to adjust the refresh rate on an application basis.

App-based refresh rate

Reportedly, Xiaomi has started to release a new update for Xiaomi 12S Pro specifically for China. The update notes for this version only point out the August 2023 security patch. However, it was discovered that it was available with a brand new feature. As you know, most applications on the Android platform require a 60 Hz refresh rate, even if your phone supports higher refresh rates. For this reason, we may even encounter incompatibility problems such as tearing.

The newly discovered feature aims to eliminate all these problems. Accordingly, users will now be able to force applications to run at a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz.

As far as reported, this new feature will be accessible from the “Applications that use high refresh rate” tab, just under the “Settings/Refresh rate” section. When you click on the tab, the list of applications installed on your device (including the system) will open. From here you can choose the refresh rate on an application basis.

The new functionality is expected to be available for other Xiaomi smartphones very soon. However, XiaomiUI has suggested that this will be part of MIUI 15. Also, we do not currently know whether this feature will be added to all phones and tablets. Therefore, users will have to wait for a while longer.
