In the study, data collected from a bird species called sedge cane (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) from 1940 to 2018 were examined. This showed that the magnetic field of the planet acts as a ‘stop’ signal to the birds.

However, experts also underlined that more research is needed to reach certainty on the subject. Stating that the possibility of using magnetic inclination may be high due to the available data, the researchers noted that the subject should be confirmed by experiments. It was also emphasized by scientists that it is very important to understand bird behavior in order to ensure the protection of biodiversity.

As a result, the research revealed that the majority of migratory birds are likely to benefit from parameters set by the Earth’s magnetic field.
