Sam Altman, the boss of OpenAI, which recently made a name for itself with its artificial intelligence-based chat robot ChatGPT, was fired in a shocking decision, and then returned to the company under pressure from Microsoft. The events also attracted the attention of regulatory organizations.

OpenAI and Microsoft relationship is questioned

The moves made by Microsoft during the resignation process, which invested a total of $13 billion in the OpenAI company, created anxiety. The possibility of Microsoft heading towards monopolization in a newly developing and ambitious field such as artificial intelligence is being evaluated.

UK regulatory bodies recently announced that they would examine the interesting relationship between Microsoft and OpenAI. The US trade commission FTC also announced that it will conduct an investigation into a similar issue.

However, since OpenAI is a non-profit organization, it is difficult to audit. There is no legal obligation to report the money traffic. As such, the FTC has to determine what kind of review process they will conduct in the first place. It is thought that the reason why Microsoft is so influential in the decision-making mechanism is due to the lack of control mechanisms within the institution.
