Microsoft introduced the Surface Duo in 2019. Long before Microsoft introduced this “foldable” smartphone, it was working on a thin operating system codenamed Andromeda. As a result, everyone had the following expectation: Surface Duo would work with the Andromeda operating system developed by Microsoft for such foldable smart devices. No, it didn’t. In 2019, Surface Duo was launched with the Android 10 operating system.
So what happened now?
The operating system codenamed Andromeda, which Microsoft canceled, was viewed while running! In a video of about 15 minutes posted on the Windows Central YouTube channel, Microsoft’s canceled Andromeda operating system can be seen running on the Lumia 950 smartphone.
The software, which you can watch in the video above, is not complete. While it is one of the versions obtained while still under development, it would be fair to say that it still works quite well. Well, the answer to the question of why Microsoft gave up on this idea, of course, is hidden in Microsoft. Of course, Microsoft also has a valid reason not to continue with this operating system.
