Microsoft’s controversial Recall feature has been delayed again
For those who missed it, Windows Recall provides “photographic memory” to computers, allowing the user to access information of a certain time. You can follow this with “Hey Recall, what was that funny video I watched on YouTube last night?” or “Hey Recall, can you make a list of all the new sneakers I looked at a few weeks ago?” We can explain it with examples such as:
However, as you know, accessing historical data brings with it some security concerns, and it has been stated that this data can easily be obtained by malicious people. Therefore, it was shared that the feature, which was postponed for a while, was ready last September. However, it seems that users will have to wait a while longer.
Microsoft announced today that the Recall preview version for Windows Insiders will be delayed. The detailed reason for this delay was not disclosed. But keeping security under lock and key is apparently proving more difficult than expected.
“We are committed to providing a safe and reliable experience with Recall, and to ensure we deliver these important updates, we are taking additional time to improve the experience before previewing it.” Windows Senior Product Manager Brandon LeBlanc
According to Microsoft’s previous post, Windows Recall will not be enabled by default when it becomes available and can be completely removed from Windows. It is not yet clear when Recall will be widely available, but considering the recently shared features, it is possible to say that it will be soon.
