One of the areas where Microsoft, which operates in many sectors from games to software and cloud computing, has not been successful; mobile devices. The company’s Lumia series smartphones running the Windows Phone operating system were actually very popular for a while and had a considerable user base.
However, Windows Phone could not compete with Android and iOS. One of the biggest reasons for this is the scarcity of applications. Third-party software developers didn’t care for Windows Phone as much as Android and iOS. Lumia support for almost all popular applications, including WhatsApp and Facebook, was discontinued.
Andromeda OS, successor to Windows Phone, looks bloody alive
It turned out years ago that Microsoft did not give up despite the failure of Windows Phone and developed a more advanced mobile operating system called Andromeda OS. Running on the Windows Core platform, Andromeda OS was supposed to be preloaded on the US company’s foldable smartphone, Surface Duo.
However, Microsoft has shelved Andromeda OS for an unspecified reason. So far, we have only seen this operating system in patent files and leak shares. Windows Central ran an undeveloped custom version of Andromeda OS on the Lumia 950. In this way, years later, what the operating system would look like was revealed.
The biggest difference of Andromeda OS from Android and iOS; Allows adding notes directly to the lock screen. Without the need to open any application, you can write on the lock screen with the touch pen. Moreover, the typed text does not disappear from the lock screen and still appears on the screen when the device is unlocked.
Surface Duo launched with Android
It was estimated that Andromeda OS, which is expected to replace Windows Phone, will be used in Surface Duo. However, for an unknown reason, the company preferred Android in its foldable smartphone. Microsoft, which did not break the tradition with the Surface Duo 2 released last year, shelved its own mobile operating system development plan with Andromeda OS.
So what do you guys think about this? Could Andromeda OS be successful? We are waiting your comments!
