Microsoft must have gotten tired of listening to complaints about faulty updates, so the company decided to explain how to update Windows properly. According to the software giant, computers must be connected to the internet for at least 8 hours in order to receive and install updates without any problems.
We are talking about the standard procedure for automatic installation of operating system updates via Windows Update. The company tracks the time that computers are connected to the Windows Update service via a special parameter.
Connection time matters
According to David Guyer, the Windows Update program manager at Microsoft, Windows devices need at least 8 hours of online work to successfully download and install updates. Guyer used the following statements in his statement on the subject:
“One of the most important things we investigated was how long a device had to be turned on and connected to Windows Update to be able to successfully install quality and feature updates. We found that devices that didn’t meet this connection time were less likely to update successfully.”
