Microsoft has announced Cyber Signals, a new online cybersecurity magazine featuring the latest Microsoft research and data on a variety of current cyber threats. The magazine will be published quarterly and will contain information that can prevent billions of cyber security threats.
According to the information in the magazine, Microsoft has prevented 71 billion cyber attacks in 2021. The distributions of these cyberattacks blocked using Microsoft Defender for Office 365 and Microsoft Azure Active Directory are as follows:
- Endpoint threats: Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, 9 targeting corporate and consumer customer devices between January and December 2021. Blocked over .6 billion malware threats.
- Email threats: Microsoft Defender for Office 365 blocked more than 35.7 billion phishing and other malicious emails targeting corporate and consumer customers between January and December 2021.
- Identity threats: Between January and December 2021, Microsoft (Azure Active Directory) detected and blocked more than 25.6 billion attempts to hijack enterprise customer accounts by brute-forcing stolen passwords.
Microsoft also shared the following statement on the subject in the magazine: “While threats have increased rapidly in the last 2 years, the adoption rate of strong authentication such as multi-factor authentication (MFA) and passwordless solutions is low. For example. , our research shows that across industries, only 22 percent of customers using Microsoft’s Cloud Identity Solution, Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), implemented strong authentication protection as of December 2021.”
