According to a newly published news, Microsoft is trying to add more artificial intelligence-based features to Windows 11. While the company has announced its latest AI-powered assistant, Windows Copilot, future updates may offer even more.
Citing its sources within Microsoft, Windows Central claims that the company is testing new AI experiences in Windows 11 and Inbox apps. For example, generative artificial intelligence can be added to Microsoft Paint, everyone’s favorite image editor. With such a capability, you just have to open Paint, click the “Magic Paint” button and tell the AI what to produce. A similar experience powered by Dall-E is already available on Bing Chat.
New artificial intelligence capabilities coming soon to Windows 11 may also come to some ready-made applications such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Photos, Windows Camera and Snipping Tool. Also, similar to what Apple introduced in iOS 16, Microsoft wants to make the Photos app capable of recognizing and cropping people and objects in photos. Interestingly, some of these features are already available to Windows 10 and 11 users. For example, PowerToys has a built-in OCR tool that lets you quickly extract text from a selected area on the screen.
The news says that some of the features Microsoft plans to add to Windows 11 may require specialized hardware, such as Windows Studio Effects, which only run on devices with dedicated Neural Processing Units (NPUs). Other additional features can work seamlessly on existing systems with “traditional” processors from AMD and Intel.
