Microsoft announced that it has made several changes to its AI-powered chatbots to simplify the user experience and make Copilot more accessible to everyone. Starting today, Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise will now only be Copilot. Microsoft 365 Copilot is now Copilot for Microsoft 365, and Microsoft Sales Copilot has been revised to Copilot for Sales.

Bing’s bad luck

Alongside some other big announcements from Microsoft, including its first dedicated chips for AI, recently called Azure Maia 100 and Cobalt 100, the company also announced several other updates to its AI strategy. These include wider use of the “Copilot” brand. Microsoft brought Bing to the fore again by launching the “Bing Chat” artificial intelligence earlier this year, but this brand is now falling into the background with the company announcing that it will use the “Copilot” brand for its artificial intelligence products.

It’s a pretty radical shift, as Microsoft’s AI push has led to some early but significant wins for Bing as a search engine. In the new copilot.microsoft.com web app, Copilot is described as “Your daily AI companion,” with the line “With Bing” added in much smaller text. AI won’t be removed from Bing.com, but it’s pretty obvious where Microsoft is going with this. Copilot, on the other hand, is integrated into almost all of Microsoft’s services in some way. From office applications to enterprise solutions, and with the new Copilot Studio and role-based Copilot for Service, Microsoft will now use this brand frequently.
