We’ve heard the definitions of virtual reality and augmented reality for a long time, but it’s clear that we haven’t seen them widely used outside of entertainment purposes yet. But things in this field will gradually change in the coming years. While technology giants are working on this issue at full speed, Microsoft has also made an important initiative in this regard.

Microsoft announced a partnership with Volkswagen to bring augmented reality technology to cars. While the company announced the “movable platform” feature for HoloLens 2, it plans to introduce this new feature to drivers in Volkswagen cars.

The system Microsoft mentioned will be presented to the driver in the form of a hologram-like image under the windshield, while the scenarios here will vary depending on the driver’s request and the instant situation while driving with the car. For example, the navigation system, which we follow from our smartphones or in-car screens, can be viewed with HoloLens 2, just like the image below.

In another scenario, we see HoloLens warn the driver of an approaching pedestrian temporary.

Volkswagen’s current cars already have some augmented reality elements though. The company’s ID.3 electric cars can transmit many phrases, including current speed and navigation instructions, to the driver on the windshield. Therefore, Microsoft may have wanted to collaborate with Volkswagen, which it finds innovative, and intends to take it a few steps further with HoloLens 2.
