Microsoft makes the transition to ARM easy: New mini PC announced for developers

Project Volterra will make things easier for ARM developers

Microsoft announced Project Volterra at its annual developer conference, Build 2022. Project Volterra is a mini PC for developers producing native ARM applications for Windows. This minicomputer comes with a built-in neural processing unit to speed up its AI-focused work. Thus, Microsoft also announced neural processing unit support for Windows.

Although there is no detailed information about Project Volterra’s hardware, it is known that it will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Also speaking to TechCrunch, Microsoft stated that Volterra will offer best-in-class artificial intelligence processing capacity and efficiency. Neural processing units normally found in smartphones were also found in Apple’s M1 processors. With its new developer computer, Microsoft also paved the way for neural processing units for Windows.

With the introduction of Volterra, Microsoft announced that programs such as Visual Studio 2022 and Windows Terminal will also have native ARM support. Microsoft, which has received serious criticism for its transition to ARM until this time, seems to finally take the right steps. Considering that Microsoft’s agreement with Qualcomm will expire soon, exciting days may be waiting for Windows for ARM.
