Windows 11 continues to evolve
Canary Channel’s latest Windows 11 preview build brings two major changes and improvements: Multi-monitor and energy optimizations. The first improvement is for those using two or more high refresh rate displays. So Windows 11 will be able to adjust the refresh rate for specific content on each monitor. For example, you might have a higher value on the monitor you’re playing your game on and a lower value with a video or static picture on the other screen. This will also come in handy for those who connect their gaming laptops to external displays.
The second change will help your tablet or laptop with a high refresh rate monitor consume less power while in battery saver mode. According to the Build 25915 release notes, Dynamic Refresh Rate enabled devices will reduce their screen refresh rates to lower values until Battery Saver is disabled.
On the other hand, optimizations for displays with high refresh rates are not the only recent improvements to displays. The July 2023 Patch Tuesday updates enable Content Adaptive Brightness Control for laptops and 2-in-1s, allowing these devices to dim or brighten different screen areas depending on the content. You can customize this feature in Settings > System > Display > Brightness and Color.
