According to some sources working closely with Microsoft, the company is developing a “web-focused” version of Windows 12. The software giant will position this operating system as a rival to the ChromeOS platform. Windows Latest website shared some details about the version that will be released after the release of Windows 12.
It is said that Microsoft is actually planning to release a simpler version of Windows 12, which we can define as “Lite”. This project will make the operating system more accessible for low-capacity computers and focus on cloud functions. It won’t replace the traditional Win32 desktop experience.
It will center on Microsoft Edge and artificial intelligence
With the Lite version of Windows 12, the software giant will respond to Google ChromeOS, which is widely used in the field of education. At the center of the operating system will be the Microsoft Edge browser and artificial intelligence. It will be offered mainly to students and educational institutions. It is also expected to be in demand in emerging markets.
A few years ago, Microsoft started working on a brand new operating system called Windows 10X that would compete directly with ChromeOS. However, its development was canceled in the spring of 2021. The company seems to have decided to revive the goals it set for Windows 10X by releasing a simpler version of Windows 12.
