With its final decision, Microsoft showed that it directed all its focus to the Xbox Series X / S. According to the company’s statement, the Xbox 360’s digital store will be closed from next year. It will not be possible to purchase games or any additional packages on the Xbox 360 Store.
Xbox 360 Store is shutting down in 2024
Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 Store will be shutting down on July 29, 2024. This decision was made 18 years after the Xbox 360 was first released in 2005. However, it should be noted that the console has not received any new content for more than 5 years.
The store closure will only block access to digital Xbox 360 games. However, Microsoft underlined that all previously purchased content will be accessible in players’ libraries. Thanks to backward compatibility, you will be able to play these games on Xbox One or Series X/S.
Even though the store is closing, it should be noted that some games on Xbox 360 will still be supported. In other words, servers of multiplayer productions and developer accounts will be supported after July 29, 2024.
Thanks to the cloud recording feature, it will be possible for players to transfer their records and accounts to the next generation Xbox consoles.
Microsoft’s decision follows Sony, which plans to close its PSP store in 2016 and the PS3 and PS Vita stores last year. However, let us remind you that Sony has kept the PS3 and PS Vita stores open after the reactions, only restricting the payment options.
