Microsoft is developing its own AI chip
As you know, Microsoft has entered the artificial intelligence competition by making a huge investment in OpenAI, which is behind ChatGPT. In this context, it is stated that TSMC signed Athena AI chips will be ready and widely available as early as next year. Thus, the software giant can provide a potential inbound flow for Azure.
Today, artificial intelligence studies are mostly carried out using NVIDIA hardware, especially graphics cards, for companies that do not already have their own technology. At this point, we can say that Microsoft is among the giants such as Google, Amazon and Meta working on their own AI chips.
The report states that Athena can cut the cost by a third compared to NVIDIA’s offerings. Also, Microsoft could add this hardware to Bing and Office for AI capabilities. But will the new solution be able to compete with Nvidia? We’ll have to wait and see for that. Current leaks point to the start of testing by a small group of Microsoft and OpenAI.
