Microsoft has been adding the Copilot AI assistant to a range of products and services on a regular basis over the past six months. Among them are many applications such as PowerPoint, OneNote, SharePoint. And now Windows 11’s Security app is also getting its own Copilot update.
It can be safely said that it is not surprising that Copilot is integrated into Windows itself. In fact, in January, Microsoft’s Vice President and Chief Product Officer Panos Panay already talked about the integration of artificial intelligence and some of the possibilities it brings for the next generation of Windows.
At its Build 2023 conference, Microsoft announced Windows Copilot, which means the AI assistant is now coming to Windows as well. Copilot is expected to basically build on the capabilities and features that Windows 11 already offers.
Microsoft says the Windows Copilot button can be found “in the front and center of the taskbar”: “Windows Copilot is familiar and easy to operate – the button is located in the front and center of your taskbar – it’s easy to find and use. Once opened, the Windows Copilot sidebar stays consistent across your applications, programs and windows and is always ready to act as your personal assistant. It helps you take action, customize your settings, and seamlessly connect between your favorite apps, making every user a pro.”
All the well-loved features of Windows come together in Windows Copilot along with all the other features on the platform and take on an even better form: “For example, the familiar copy-paste feature not only allows you to copy and paste but also rewrite your content from Windows Copilot. turns into an enhanced experience that you can ask to summarize or explain. You can also ask Windows Copilot a variety of questions, from simple to complex, just as you can in Bing Chat.”
Microsoft offers Windows Copilot with Bing Chat and says Copilot can make anyone a power user, whether you’re a general user or a developer. At the same time, you, as developers, will have new ways to reach and innovate for our mutual customers.”
Windows Copilot will be available as a preview in Windows 11 Insider builds starting June 2023.
