Microsoft has been wanting to buy Activision Blizzard for a while. While the lawsuit continues in the acquisition process, Microsoft’s plans have also been revealed. The resulting documents reveal the company’s acquisition goals and strategy to roll out Xbox Game Pass.
In pursuit of Microsoft, Sega and many game companies
In the documents shared by the company for the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, its future strategies were also revealed. It seems that Microsoft is making plans to buy many big game companies, especially Sega. These companies include Bungie, IO Interactive, Supergiant Games, Niantic and Zynga.
In addition to IO Interactive, which we know with the Hitman series, Niantic made a big splash with Pokemon Go. Destiny 2, revealed by Bungie, continues to evolve even six years after its release, while Zynga’s dominance in the mobile market is unknown.
Microsoft’s bid to take over Activision Blizzard is under scrutiny around the world amid concerns that Microsoft may establish a monopoly in the gaming market. While Microsoft’s court case with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) continues, the UK’s own Competition and Markets Authority has explicitly blocked the deal. The European Union, on the other hand, allowed the agreement to be completed by adding some important clauses.
Microsoft, on the other hand, continues to take significant steps to address monopoly concerns by offering a number of deals with competitors, including a historic deal with Nintendo to offer Call of Duty on consoles from the Japanese video game company.
While Microsoft’s aggressive strategy in the game market continues, the companies it wants to buy are proof of this. So what do you think about the game companies that Microsoft wants to buy? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
