Microsoft, which has come to the fore with its Metaverse works in recent days, revived the first Olympic Games Museum in Athens in a virtual environment. With the new agreement between the Greek Government and Microsoft, the Ancient Olympic Games will be digitally preserved.

In the project prepared by Microsoft with the aim of protecting the cultural heritage, historical places were transferred to the virtual environment by collaborating with the technology company Iconem, which is the pioneer of the industry in 3D digital. The thousands of images provided in the creation of the site were recorded using a wide variety of professional cameras and drones. Microsoft’s artificial intelligence technology created the three-dimensional virtual environment by processing images.

In the Digital Ancient Olympic Games Museum, the buildings were designed very close to their original forms and designed very close to the real ones. The timeline on the site, on the other hand, aims to offer a very pleasant experience to its visitors, with historical change and descriptions of works belonging to each period. Among the 27 monuments that will be included in the project and preserved in the digital environment, the Olympic Stadium, the temples of Zeus and Hera, and the workshop of the famous sculptor Phidias stand out.

Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis emphasized that the cultural effects of technology are endless. “Visitors from all over the world can virtually visit the Ancient Olympic Games Museum, where democracy was born, for the first time,” he said. Microsoft President Brad Smith described the project to digitally preserve the Museum of the Ancient Olympic Games as a stunning achievement in cultural heritage. He said that he sees the project as a powerful way to benefit the whole world and for future generations to discover our past.

Thanks to this agreement signed by the Greek government and Microsoft, people will be able to visit the Ancient Olympic Games Museum remotely with an augmented reality mobile application.
