Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Security version flagged Microsoft’s Office applications on the system as ransomware and gave an alarm. Users were naturally surprised when the antivirus program started seeing the “OfficeSvcMgr.exe” file as a virus. Microsoft immediately started a study on the issue and sent a warning to users stating that this was a false alarm.

Microsoft’s Security and Compliance expert Steve Scholz explained the problem and its source on Reddit. Scholz explained: “As of the morning of March 16, our customers may have encountered a number of false positive detections associated with a detection of a Ransomware behavior in the file system. Microsoft’s research has determined that these are false positives. Adjustments have been made to the cloud to prevent the error from occurring again. ”
