We know that Microsoft is getting more and more aggressive in marketing its Edge browser. The company even goes so far as to display banner ads on its Chrome download website, reminding you that Edge works with the same technology as Chrome but has “the added trust of Microsoft.” Now, it looks like the company is going one step further to attract more customers to Edge after the latest update.
If you open Edge after the new update, a “promotion” starts, which says that Edge has many new features, covers the entire browser, and you can’t close it by pressing the X key in a traditional way.

This page has another fullscreen ad for you to set Microsoft Edge as your default browser. Fortunately, on this page, instead of being forced to follow Microsoft’s advice, you can bypass the “Use Microsoft recommended browser settings” option.
Given Microsoft’s history in this space, it’s safe to assume that ads trying to persuade Microsoft Edge to set it as your default browser will get more aggressive until any verification is done…
