US-based technology giant Microsoft held its event called “Microsoft Ignite” last evening. At this event, which was held with the participation of NVIDIA CEO, statements were made mostly about artificial intelligence technologies. Microsoft announced its newest technologies powered by artificial intelligence within the scope of this event.

One of Microsoft’s most popular artificial intelligence tools reaching the end user is Bing Chat. Trained with the GPT model of the company’s search engine, which brought ChatGPT to where it is today, Bing Chat serves as a chat bot that aims to help users. Microsoft announced that it changed the name of this chat bot within the scope of Ignite events.

Bing Chat’s name became “Copilot”

In its statements on the subject, Microsoft announced that the name of Bing Chat has been changed to “Copilot”. When users enter Bing Chat in the coming days, they will actually encounter Copilot. So why did Microsoft make such a decision?

A few months ago, Microsoft introduced its artificial intelligence technology called Copilot. This technology acts as an “assistant” for all Microsoft’s products and services. This is actually the reason why Bing Chat’s name was changed to Copilot. Microsoft made such a decision because it wanted users to avoid confusion and become more familiar with the name Copilot. Of course, the name similarity with ChatGPT, the most popular chat bot on the market, has thus been eliminated.

Along with the name change, Microsoft also made some changes to the Copilot terms of use. The company will now better protect the privacy of data belonging to its corporate customers. With the “commercial data protection” clause added to the contract, corporate customers’ data will be stored and will not be used for machine learning. The changes, which also include the commercial data protection clause, will be valid as of December 1, 2023.
