Microsoft has announced its latest financial figures, this time for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2023, which ends on June 30, 2023. Shares of the software giant fell as much as 4 percent as revenues fell slightly below expectations. On the other hand, Microsoft continued to increase revenues in most business divisions.

Microsoft has grown in most areas

Microsoft saw revenues of $56.2 billion in the fourth quarter of its fiscal year, an 8 percent increase over the previous year. Growth was below 10% for three consecutive quarters for the first time since 2017. The firm’s operating income was $24.3 billion, up 18 percent year-on-year, while net income was $20.1 billion, up 20 percent year-on-year.

Microsoft’s Smart Cloud segment, comprising Azure SQL Server, Windows Server, Visual Studio, Nuance, GitHub and enterprise services, generated $23.99 billion in revenue, up 15 percent. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that “Microsoft Cloud’s annual revenue exceeded $110 billion, with a 27% increase in stable currency and Azure accounting for more than 50% of the total for the first time.”

Windows revenues plummeted

Microsoft’s Productivity and Business Process segment, which includes Office productivity software, LinkedIn and Dynamics, increased 10 percent to $18.29 billion in revenue. The More PC segment, which includes Windows, devices, gaming and search advertising, generated $13.91 billion in revenue. This section decreased by 4 percent compared to the previous year. Windows OEM revenues were down 12 percent and devices down 20 percent. On the other hand, Xbox revenues were up 5 percent, Windows Commercial products and cloud services revenues were up 2 percent, and Search and news advertising revenues were up 8 percent.

Microsoft also announced all of its 2023 fiscal year revenues. Microsoft’s revenue for the full fiscal year was $211.9 billion, up 7 percent from a year ago, and operating income was $88.5 billion, up 6 percent from a year ago. Net income decreased slightly to $72.4 billion.
