Late last September, Microsoft announced a series of software updates related to its artificial intelligence work. One of the updated ones was Bing Image Creator, an artificial intelligence-based visual art creator. The software giant announced that OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 model has started to be used in the image generator as of September 29 and is available to all users. Since then, Bing has been working a little slowly, but the solution is close.

Bing’s visual aspect is getting faster

The addition of DALL-E 3 to Bing Image Creator seems to have caused a huge increase in the number of people accessing it, and as a result, the service can sometimes be slow at creating images. This was reported via X (formerly Twitter) by a number of people, including some who waited more than two hours to get an image. Of course, most people did not wait for hours, but what used to take a few seconds had generally increased to a few minutes in recent days.

It looks like Microsoft is aware of this issue and is working to fix it as soon as possible. Mikhail Parakhin, the new head of Microsoft’s Windows and Web Services team, said that they did not expect such great interest in Bing Image Creator after the DALL-E 3 update. Parakhin stated that Microsoft will “bring more GPUs,” which will help reduce wait time “soon.” When asked in a follow-up message how many GPUs were added, Parakhin stated that thousands of Nvidia H100s were purchased.
Bing Image Creator was using the DALL-E 2 model until the last update. This model debuted in April last year. It fell behind its competitors because it was a bit outdated. Things have changed with OpenAI recently announcing DALL-E 3, and the model’s capabilities have increased significantly.
