LinkedIn, the social media network that appeals to the business world, stopped serving in China two months ago. Citing the Chinese Government’s pressure on the internet, the authorities announced that “We are facing a significantly challenging work environment” and removed the localized version of LinkedIn in accordance with Chinese laws.
Microsoft introduced the InCareer platform, which will help users living in China search for jobs in the country and Chinese companies find employees. “Our InCareer launch is just the beginning,” said Mohak Shroff, LinkedIn Senior Vice President, in a blog post on the subject. We will continue to improve with the feedback we receive from our members and customers. ” he said.
InCareer does not include LinkedIn’s social media features
InCareer is exactly the same as LinkedIn in terms of working logic. But it does not have social sharing features. Users will not be able to share posts or articles with this application, and they will not have a social profile like LinkedIn. On the other hand, it will continue to offer the possibility of adding personal information to profiles and messaging with employers.
The new platform includes a search algorithm that can filter jobs by job title, location, company, industry or seniority. Here, just like on LinkedIn, users can find the jobs they want and view the recommendations made by the application. InCareer also has the InMail feature, which allows sending messages to unconnected members.
Microsoft needed to strip LinkedIn of social sharing features in order to keep it in China. Because the censorship mechanisms of the Chinese Government have recently given the company a headache. He even had to suspend the account of journalist Greg Bruno, who exposed China’s ill-treatment of refugees, at the request of the Chinese Communist Party.
In a statement made in the past months, the company said that it could no longer withstand the pressures and said, “We are facing a significantly challenging working environment in China. With that in mind, we’ve made the decision to remove the localized version of LinkedIn that allows people in China to access social media features. ” he said.
Among the US-based social networks, LinkedIn has become the largest company that can host in the People’s Republic of China. Most platforms, including Facebook (Meta), Twitter, Google, do not operate in the country. Despite everything, Microsoft did not give up and made a new start with the InCareer application.
