Microsoft and Sony have signed an agreement that Sony will release the Call of Duty series to PlayStation consoles after Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

The news was posted by Xbox head Phil Spencer on his Twitter account. Spencer didn’t offer any details on how long the deal will last or whether there will be any fees: “We look forward to a future where gamers globally have more options to play their favorite games.”

The Verge, on the other hand, claimed that the agreement between Microsoft and Sony is 10 years and covers only the Call of Duty series. It is also alleged that Microsoft tried to make a deal with Sony to keep all current Activision games on PlayStation until the end of 2027, but Sony did not accept this agreement.

Sony did everything to block the buyout

Sony was the largest company to oppose Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard for $69 billion. He spent months trying to convince government auditors like the US Federal Trade Commission and the UK Competition and Markets Authority that the deal would be bad for the gaming industry in general and Sony in particular.

At one point, Sony claimed in documents submitted to the CMA that “Microsoft may release a PlayStation version of Call of Duty and that bugs in this version can only appear at the final level of the game or after subsequent updates.”
