It looks like a bad period is starting again for the players. Microsoft is set to follow in the footsteps of other major game publishers like Sony, Take-Two and EA by raising the prices of first-party games soon. Major Xbox first-party games cost $59.99. But starting in 2023 it will go up to $69.99, and highly anticipated upcoming games like Starfield and Forza Motorsport will be sold at that price tag.
In a statement, the company confirmed the price increase, saying that “this price reflects the content, scale and technical complexity of these games.” While there will be a price increase for major Xbox exclusive AAA editions such as Starfield, Redfall, Fable, Xbox Game Studios’ smaller Grounded or Pentiment-scale games will not be affected by this change.
Microsoft also stated that Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass subscriptions will continue to remain an alternative to purchasing their games directly, adding, “As with all games developed by our teams on Xbox, they will also be available with Game Pass from day one. ” said.
While game prices are rising on the Xbox side, Microsoft recently announced that it does not plan to increase the Xbox Series X|S console prices, unlike its rival. However, Game Pass did not make any statements about its prices. So we can also expect to see some price increases on the horizon for popular Xbox Game Pass subscription services.
