Meteksan, which stands out with its radar and environmental imaging systems, has transformed its know-how into a new product. FELIX UAV Defense System, which will protect against Kamikaze UAV and drone threats, was introduced at IDEF’23.

With the increasing use of mini, micro UAVs and kamikaze UAVs by terrorist organizations, interest in protection systems against these threats has increased. The anti-UAV system, called FELIX UAV Defense System, will be integrated on 4×4 armored land vehicles.

Meteksan’s Retinar AESA Radar System is used in the FELIX system. Thanks to the capabilities of this system, it can detect moving targets with high accuracy and track the target with high success. Retina AESA operates 24/7 without being affected by adverse weather conditions. It will have a radar range of 24 kilometers.

Selcuk Kerem Alparslan, General Manager of Meteksan Defense, pointed out that small, low-flying, slow-moving air drones pose a serious threat and stated that FELIX offers a solution to all these. Alparslan said:

“Drone attacks are common in the defense of convoys, troops during force transfer, and VIPs, and in the transport of high-value materials and equipment, and there is a need for a smart and advanced defense system against them. FELIX is a system that has a very important effect here. Air defense is a very broad, layered concept. Fast, high-flying, low-flying small targets and so on are very difficult to address all at once. FELIX’s target set has also been improved. Beyond mini/micro UAVs, it also includes highly effective design and algorithms against fixed-wing, kamikaze, hovering, ammunition-carrying drones. Highly effective against tactical UAVs within range. We’ve limited the range of FELIX to 24 kilometers. This is a limitation by concept. It ranges from closer ranges up to 24 kilometers depending on the character of these small targets or targets.”

Stating that the Retinar AESA Radar can act as a shield in the sky as a 360 degree dome with 4 panel antennas, Alparslan said:

Generally, radar systems have a certain intake cone, and drones may choose to dive from above that intake cone, overhead. That gap must be filled. With the radar we have developed, we have covered the entire upper cone. In addition, it can scan very fast, it can cover the whole space, hemisphere in 1 second. In this way, it can perform very precise tracking with a very fast update frequency. In case of swarm attacks from different directions, FELIX is a system that can detect, monitor and neutralize all of them separately. Retinar AESA can track both fast and slow targets with its MIMO features. This is a difficult equation when developing radar. It can also perform high resolution Doppler analysis. We have embedded this in the electronic scanning feature, and the system can simultaneously classify and diagnose the targets it detects and tracks while scanning. Therefore, while detecting and tracking targets in space, you can identify them, and you dominate the entire space, even with swarm attacks. MERT Electronic Attack System is activated during the implementation of measures against them. MERT can be operated automatically, semi-automatically or manually. Its biggest feature is a wideband reception feature, it is actually a spectrum listening receiver and is multi-channel. It decomposes all of the broadcasts coming from more than one channel at the same time and attacks them with local, adaptive waveforms. We call this reactive mixing. We listen to the whole spectrum first, detect broadcasts, localize them, and attack with adaptive waveforms. We adjust the bandwidths. In this way, friendly broadcasts and your own communication cycles are not affected. This is a very important skill. You can use a hybrid of dam mixing and reagent mixing at the same time.”

Selcuk Kerem Alparslan stated that the Retinar AESA Radar and MERT Electronic Assault System have been completed and that their deliveries will be made soon, and that they have put forward a new concept by bringing them together. Alparslan said, “In this way, if the vehicle is desired, we can deliver the system only during the production time, and we can also create solutions in different vehicle configurations quickly if requested. I can say that the systems are mature and have passed the field tests.” said.
