Collaboration from Barcelona and Real Madrid

Although the interest in NFT and metaverse concepts, which was at the top with transaction volume last year, decreased slightly in the second quarter of 2022, it still continues to attract the attention of larger organizations and brands. Real Madrid and Barcelona, which we can call the two biggest teams of Spain and even the world, rolled up their sleeves to cooperate in the field of metaverse. Trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis announced on Twitter that Real Madrid and Barcelona teams have filed a joint trademark application. According to Kondoudis’s post, the two teams have entered into a partnership agreement covering virtual reality games, virtual apparel, cryptocurrency, blockchain transaction management software, e-wallets and more.

Teams Stepping into the Metaverse

Real Madrid and Barcelona are not the first teams to step into the world of NFT and the metaverse. We can even say that these two football giants are a little behind their rivals in this regard. Last month, in July, English football club Crystal Palace filed a trademark application for its coat of arms, covering NFTs, cryptocurrencies, cryptocurrency exchanges, virtual apparel and more. At the same time, the giant French club Paris Saint Germain took an important step into the NFT ecosystem by applying for NFT-supported multimedia, virtual wear, crypto wallets and crypto money transaction management in late March this year.

Football Players Included in the Ecosystem

This situation is not only limited to clubs, there are many athletes who step into this ecosystem. At the forefront of these athletes is the legendary name David Beckham. David Beckham filed three trademark applications in April of this year, and star football player Cristiano Ronaldo has signed an exclusive NFT partnership with cryptocurrency exchange Binance to create NFT products on the platform.
