In a new blog post on its website, Meta announced that Horizon Worlds is heading to web and mobile devices in an effort to expand its user base, which is currently limited to people who own the Quest VR headset. This announcement comes at a time when Horizon Worlds’ user base is dwindling, and although Meta never publishes official player statistics, reports citing internal documents reveal that the social space is barely populated.
For those unfamiliar with Horizon Worlds, it can be thought of as a platform where people can join or create “worlds” to socialize and play. The ecosystem also includes a store where users can sell virtual items. However, Meta gets a 47.5 percent share of each sale. Meta states that a small number of people can now access the Meta Quest app on Android and iOS, while the early access web version is available to everyone.“As we roll out more worlds over the next few months, you’ll be able to hang out with friends, laugh at comedy shows, and enjoy free concerts and events from any web-connected device,” Meta says. For now, Meta will test the systems during the early access period and improve the experience by collecting feedback. During this time, Horizon Worlds will gradually be brought to more people.
