In Meta’s promotional event yesterday, only the Metaverse partnership with Microsoft was not announced. In addition, it was announced that the next generation avatars will have feet and legs, and that these avatars can be used in areas other than video conversation.
“Feet and legs are pretty hard to program,” says Mark Zuckerberg, META CEO. “They’re going to be used in Horizon Wolds first, and then we’ll have them expand into other areas as our technology evolves.”
The avatars Meta currently uses consist of heads and arms and floating torso. So they have a somewhat funny look.
Meta also announced a new feature called Mission Zoom that lets you use your avatar in Zoom meetings. When this feature is activated, users who do not want to be seen on the camera will be able to participate in video calls with their avatars. These new features are scheduled to arrive in 2023.
