Meta has begun allowing creators to sell digital items in Horizon Worlds, the free-to-play VR game the company announced earlier this week.
Meta’s cut from sales drew backlash from creators within the NFT community.
Although the company claims in a statement that it will allow users to build their own worlds and monetize such efforts, the cut from revenues has sparked backlash
A Meta spokesperson told CNBC. Meta will take half of each transaction. While a 30% deduction will be made for sales made through the Meta Quest Store, Horizon Worlds will charge an additional 17.5% fee. Thus, 47.5% of the sales will belong to Meta.
NFT art collector and commentator punk 6529 sarcastically commented, “The concept of a future job gives Meta 47.5% of your salary.”
Some community members expressed that high wages would not deter people.
Not long ago, Mark Zuckerberg criticized Apple’s 30% fee for transactions from developers.
