Meta has been doing serious research on wearable technology for many years. One of these projects was the smart watch prepared by the Reality Labs team. Meta’s smartwatch appeared last year. The smartwatch, developed with Android and codenamed Milan, was canceled this week.
Meta’s smartwatch would come with dual cameras and special applications
According to Bloomberg’s report, Meta executives canceled the Milan code-named smartwatch that Reality Labs was working on this week. Bloomberg has published detailed information about Milan with the cancellation of the device. Meta’s smart watch seems to be prepared with a design language very similar to Fitbit Blaze. Developed with Android, the smart watch would come with 5 megapixel front camera and 12 megapixel rear camera support. The main purpose of the rear camera was to provide an input method for the augmented reality glasses that Meta will introduce in the future, but according to the information received, the rear camera prevented the body sensors on the back of the device from working properly and Meta was not satisfied with this situation.
It is also among the information that the device supports Wi-Fi, GPS, eSIM features and has an 18-hour battery life. Apart from applications such as Spotify, health, calendar and settings found in other smart watches, the device will host special applications such as WhatsApp and Instagram Stories. Before the device was canceled, the targeted release date was stated as the second quarter of 2023 and the release price would be approximately $349. Although Meta has canceled the Milan smartwatch, the firm is working on multiple wrist-worn smart devices, according to Bloomberg.
