The company, which has given up the name “Facebook”, which it has been using for years for Metaverse technologies, and which we have been calling Meta for a while, seems to continue its work in this sector at full speed. According to the statements made by Mark Zuckerberg, the company will make significant improvements to wearable virtual and reality equipment with a software update that is still in the testing phase.
Meta’s Quest branded equipment, which has been on the market for years, will be equipped with a feature called “Direct Touch”. This feature focuses on tracking users’ hand movements. According to the statement, users will be able to touch objects in the virtual environment with Direct Touch technology. So how will this be possible?
No need for keyboard or Quest controllers
Quest branded equipment has been able to track hand movements since 2019. Direct Touch will significantly expand the scope of this feature. The user, who switches to a virtual environment after putting on glasses and headphones, will be able to directly use products such as a tablet or keyboard with his hands. This will eliminate the hassle of using a real keyboard while wearing glasses. Of course, the Quest controller will no longer be needed for some operations.
Mark Zuckerberg showed how the Direct Touch feature can be used in a video he shared on Instagram. According to the video, a semi-pronounced hand icon will appear, showing the hand gestures of the wearer who is wearing the glasses. As the user moves his hand, this icon will also move and functions will be performed. You will be able to have the same experience in virtual reality as you use a smartphone or tablet.
