Meta warned millions: Fraud accounts that mimic celebrities multiplied!

The number of invalid accounts that defraud users with the promise of romantic interest in social media is increasing day by day. Meta warned its users to be careful against such frauds.

Recently, stories about fraud events are increasingly heard. Meta announced in 2025 that it has removed more than 116,000 accounts in connection with such fraud. The company called on users especially before Valentine’s Day.

They demand money with fake accounts

Compared to Meta, the scammers mimic the famous names. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and such platforms, such as “search for love”, saying that they are contacting users. After a while, they demand a gift card, crypto money or direct money.

Meta states that it has removed more than 408,000 straight accounts in 2024 and that this kind of fraud attempts continue to increase every year. These medicine frauds are mostly ruled by West African countries. The clusters that deceive people with fabricated accounts become more convincing with artificial intelligence -based image manipulation and sound cloning techniques. Thanks to the faces and sounds created with artificial intelligence, scammers gain belief by appearing to a real person even in image talks.

Meta announced last year that it launched face recognition technology last year to prevent fraud. He began to cooperate with other companies to detect and prevent organized fraud clusters. David Agranovich, head of the Meta’s threats, said that scammers have always developed new procedures.

Emphasizing that awareness of fraud should be increased, experts recommend that social media users be careful with the messages they do not know. In particular, it is stated that it should be cautious against accounts that demand money or suspicious shares.
