Social media giant Meta warns Facebook users. It found that 400 mobile applications logged in with Facebook account were fraudulent. The company shared some recommendations for both Android and iOS users. It is thought that close to a million users have downloaded the applications in question.
Those who log in to these applications with their Facebook account are burned
In the new blog post shared by Facebook’s parent company Meta, a vulnerability affecting Android and iOS users was discussed. Meta researchers, who determined that 400 applications logged with Facebook account are dangerous, said that users’ credentials may have been copied.
The apps spotted by Meta appear to span a wide range of categories, from photo editing to gaming. According to Meta’s Security Manager David Agranovich and Malware Engineer Ryan Victory, the biggest vulnerability occurred in photo editing applications with 42 percent.
It is possible to say that fraud applications logged in with Facebook accounts have spread to the Google Play Store and App Store. However, considering that 355 of the applications are on Android and 45 on iOS, we see that Google has more vulnerabilities in the security section.
According to the report, malware; photo editors, games, VPN, lifestyle, business programs and phone tools. More specifically, health tracking, VPN, business, ad management and flashlight applications appeared.
Meta researchers also shared some security recommendations. According to the blog post, the first thing to consider in apps is to check if “the app does what it says”. So if he hides all his talent and asks for permission to access your information, you should delete the app and report it to the Play Store/App Store.
