After launching NFT support on Instagram in May, Meta has also launched support for digital collections for Facebook with select creators. The feature, which allows a select group of creators in the US to post digital collections on Facebook, is currently being tested, a Meta spokesperson said. Creators using this feature will be able to display NFTs on their profile under a new tab, and their art will have a “digital collection” hashtag, just like on Instagram.

The official releases come a week after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said NFT support will be tested on Facebook soon. Zuckerberg said the test would allow creators to crosspost on Instagram and Facebook. However, it is said that the sharing feature on both platforms is not available yet, and will be available soon.

Meta product manager Navdeep Singh shared screenshots of the digital collection support. According to the screenshots, you can post NFTs on your timeline and clicking on them will show you details about the digital collection, such as details about the collection and its creator.

NFTs printed in Ethereum and Polygon were supported in the works on Instagram with support for Solana and Flow. Meta hasn’t said whether the same blockchains are supported on Facebook, but it’s likely to be the same.

Zuckerberg also said that Meta will work on augmented reality NFTs, or 3D NFTs, that you can bring to Instagram Stories using Spark AR, the company’s software AR platform. Meta expanded its NFT test on Instagram last week to allow more creators worldwide to view their NFTs on Instagram. Prior to the expansion, support was available only for certain creators in the United States.

Meta says there will be no fees associated with sending or sharing a digital collectible. The company also stated that it will not have the ability to convert digital collection posts into ads for now.

Meta says it recognizes that NFTs raise important sustainability questions, and as part of its commitment to sustainability, it helps reduce the emission impact that can be associated with digital collections by purchasing renewable energy.
