Facebook, which has become the most populated area in the world, ignores the rules to turn it into income. Facebook, which has been opened numerous data breaches or monopoly lawsuits over the years and paid billions of dollars in compensation, is still dealing with unclosed lawsuits.
Major compensation from Facebook
This time the subject of the lawsuit goes back to 2012. In 2010 and 2011, Facebook cookies continued to track and collect data even if the user logs out of the account. One of the lawsuits opened was in 2012.
A group of users applied to the court for violation of personal rights. Speaking of the cases won in the sequential legal steps and appeals, the case was sent to the California District Court for retrial in 2020.
While Facebook has focused on winning this decade-long lawsuit, something has happened this year and has decided to settle with the plaintiffs. By paying a total of 90 million dollars, the company is eliminating the grievances of US users.
This was the seventh case for Facebook to pay the highest amount of damages in the US. The highest amount was in the $650 million lawsuit related to facial recognition data. Again, the Cambridge Analytic scandal was one of the important cases.
