Under the direction of Mark Zuckerberg, Meta has focused on artificial intelligence and metaverse technologies in recent years. In fact, the company has announced a supercomputer called “AI Research SuperCluster” in recent years. This supercomputer, with 16 thousand GPUs, was a machine developed for artificial intelligence-oriented studies.
Now, another remarkable news has come from Meta. The company announced that it is working on a chip that will be used for artificial intelligence technologies. In the statement, it was stated that this chip, called “Meta Training and Inference Accelerator” (MTIA), was specifically optimized to run artificial intelligence models.
Much better than CPUs in supercomputers
In the statements made by Meta, it was stated that this chip only focuses on artificial intelligence, which brings the chip to a better point than the CPUs used in other supercomputers. Because MTIA is configured for Meta’s projects, it will result in less power consumption and higher efficiency in the company’s work. “We will deliver better performance, lower latency and higher efficiency for every workload,” said Santosh Janardhan, Meta Vice President, on the chip.
Meta did not provide further information about the chip called MTIA it is working on. However, according to the statement made by TechCrunch, the active use of this chip is not that close. According to the information conveyed, Meta will be able to actively use MTIA as of 2025. When those days come, we will be able to see the effects of the chip developed by Meta much more clearly.
