Meta added new features to its artificial intelligence-based chat bot Meta AI that will improve user experience. Now Meta AI will be able to offer more personalized answers by remembering the information it obtains from conversations.
According to Meta’s statement, Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp users in the USA and Canada will be able to request the bot to record reasonable information about them. For example, if a user states that they like to travel or are vegan, Meta AI will take that information into account in future conversations.
Facebook and Instagram data will be included in the offers
Meta AI’s new feature will work similar to the memory systems in OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini models. However, Meta stated that this information will only be used in one-on-one chats and will not be recorded in group chats.
Meta AI will also be able to perform more comprehensive personalization using account information in Meta’s applications. For example, position information on Facebook or views viewed on Instagram will be included in the bot’s offers. Users will be able to delete the information saved by the bot at any time, but it will not be possible to give up customized offers completely.
Meta announced that these innovations will be first available in the USA and Canada. Meta’s past controversial status regarding information occlusion creates uncertainty about how these innovations will be received by users. Especially the fact that individual information will be used in a wider scope makes us think that these updates may cause repercussions.
