Messages sent on WhatsApp can be edited later

WhatsApp users will soon be able to edit the messages they send later. But for now, it seems like this feature won't be available for everyone.

A few weeks ago, Apple showed how the option to edit sent messages works in an iPhone 14 ad. According to rumors, a similar feature will be available to WhatsApp users using iPhones in the next update. Considering how popular a messaging application WhatsApp is, it is surprising that this feature has been delayed so much.

After sending a message, WhatsApp users will be able to edit it using the menu options. The phrase “edited” will appear next to the edited messages. In addition, WhatsApp will allow users to change the messages they send within 15 minutes. Since this is the first version of the message editing option yet, it only allows editing text-based messages. Messages containing images, documents or videos cannot be edited.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement about WhatsApp, “WhatsApp is much more private and secure than iMessage, with end-to-end encryption that works on both iPhones and Android, including group chats. With WhatsApp, you can also set all new chats to disappear at the touch of a button. And last year we also introduced end-to-end encrypted backups. All this is still not in iMessage,” he said.
