Mercedes-Benz will integrate artificial intelligence into more than 900,000 vehicles as part of a new trial of the ChatGPT-powered voice assistant system.

The company announced on June 16 that the optional beta feature is available to owners of all vehicles equipped with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) interface. According to the statement, Mercedes drivers will be able to sign up for the new artificial intelligence assisted assistant by saying “Hey Mercedes, I want to join the beta program” while sitting in their vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz: Command Data to be Stored and Analyzed

The Germany-based manufacturer has announced that it will complement the existing voice control feature by expanding the existing capabilities of ChatGPT.

“While most voice assistants are limited to predefined tasks and responses, ChatGPT leverages a large language model to greatly improve natural language understanding and expand the topics it can respond to,” the company said in a statement. ChatGPT integration will allow users to ask Voice Assistant questions about the driving experience or other topics.

The company also said that all voice command data collected by the voice assistant will be stored in the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud system, where it will be anonymized and analyzed.

After the beta program, which is expected to last three months, Mercedes said it would reassess whether it plans to further develop the ChatGPT-enabled voice control feature. While this is the auto company’s latest step into artificial intelligence, Mercedes-Benz has also been involved in blockchain-related projects for several years.

In January 2022, Mercedes partnered with several NFT artists to celebrate the G-Class series model. The manufacturer also started using Ocean Protocol’s blockchain to collect various user data in July 2020. In March 2018, the firm launched its own cryptocurrency to reward eco-friendly driving.
