The global chip crisis continues to seriously affect the production leg of the automotive industry. As of the first months of 2021, automakers began to feel the effects of this situation, while some manufacturers such as Toyota had to pause production in the USA, Canada, Mexico and some other countries.
According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, the last manufacturer affected by this situation was Mercedes-Benz. It turns out that the German automotive giant may have to wait almost more than a year for its customers’ vehicles.
‘Demand for Mercedes-Benz vehicles is very high’
This was confirmed by Daimler CEO Ola Kallenius, Reuters reported. In an interview with FAZ, Kallenius summed up the situation as follows: “The demand on the Mercedes-Benz side is incredibly high, but we are also faced with very serious limitations. For some models, the waiting time is longer than we would like, in some cases it can exceed a year.”
Kallenius also touched upon what was previously reported on the subject in the interview. The global chip shortage may not disappear until 2023 as an underlying effect of the coronavirus pandemic, according to Mercedes and BMW, but its impact on vehicle production will be milder next year.
