Mercedes-AMG EQE introduced: 677 horsepower and more

Mercedes continues to expand its electric vehicle family. After the EQE introduced last year, the German manufacturer has now unveiled the new Mercedes-AMG EQE. The new model will be sold as EQE 43 4MATIC and EQE 53 4MATIC+ versions.

EQE 43 4MATIC

When we look at the specifications, we see that the new Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 4MATIC gets 469 horsepower and 858 Nm of torque from two electric motors. This allows AMG’s new electric vehicle to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds. The maximum speed, on the other hand, is limited to 210 km/h due to range concerns.

The model in question has a 90.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It is stated that this will provide the car with a range of 462 to 533 kilometers according to WLTP. In terms of charging, an 11 kW internal charger is standard, and a 22 kW charger is optional. The model, which can be charged up to 170 kW at DC fast charging stations, can thus gain a range of 180 kilometers with a 15-minute charge.

EQE 53 4MATIC+

In the new Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+, the power obtained from the electric motors increases to 617 hp and the torque increases up to 950 Nm. This reduces the 0-100 km/h acceleration time of the model to 3.5 seconds, while the maximum speed limit rises to 220 km/h. However, this change reduces the estimated range range to between 444 and 518 kilometers, according to WLTP.

AMG’s motto for more power and performance remains the same in the electric vehicle world. At this point, the AMG Dynamic Plus package can also be purchased in version 53 4MATIC+. With the package in question, power and torque increase to 677 horsepower and 1000 Nm. Thus, 0-100 km/h acceleration drops to 3.3 seconds, and the maximum speed limit is a little higher, reaching 240 km/h.

Drive modes and other features

Both versions have AMG-specific engines and drive modes. The full potential of the car is revealed in Sport+ and Race Plus modes, while Comfort mode reduces power by 15-20%, contributing to the range. Speaking of range, Mercedes states that the range can be improved with a remote update to the battery management system in the future.

Engineers are particularly concerned with charging. In this context, EQE has the Eco Charging function, which reduces the load of the battery during charging, thus extending the battery life. In addition, it is stated that the battery can be cooled and heated while driving in order to achieve optimum fast charging conditions. Also on the list is a three-level regenerative braking system that can be adjusted from the buttons on the steering wheel.

Both versions have the AMG Ride Control+ air suspension system. AMG-specific suspension links and anti-roll bars also increase stiffness. The rear axle steering system is one of the standard features on models that also have Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires developed for high-performance electric vehicles.

Finally, AMG versions of the EQE feature six-piston front calipers and 415mm front discs. At the rear, single-piston calipers and 378 mm discs are used. Of course, the AMG ceramic brake system is also on the option list. Larger and thicker front discs (440 by 40 mm) come into play in this equipment, which requires 21-inch wheels.

Mercedes-AMG EQE’s release date and price have not been clarified yet.
