Gaming consoles like the Nintendo Switch and Valve’s Steam Deck have greatly enhanced the capabilities of handheld gaming systems. Even trying to get the Switch Lite into a pocket is a struggle, and as a result, we see handheld console manufacturers going to extreme lengths in the opposite direction to make portable devices as small as possible. The newly introduced PocketStar is a game console that exaggerates this a bit.
The nearly 2-inch-tall PocketStar is a usable device, assuming you don’t have the D-pad and huge hands. The game console, which has a 0.95 inch color OLED screen with a resolution of 94×64 pixels, is powered by an ESP32-C3 processor running at 160MHz.
Despite its size, PocketStar has vibration feedback and a built-in accelerometer for motion-controlled play, and WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.
With its $50 price tag, PocketStar seems like a great fit for retro gamers who value portability above all else. You can find more information about this extraordinary game console, currently offered as part of the kickstarter project, on the project page.
