READING NOW MediaTek surpasses Snapdragon for the first time in software update support
In the 2010s, MediaTek-supported Android smartphones were supported for only 1 or 2 years, while Snapdragon devices were supported for up to 2 or 3 years. Although Snapdragon has always been one step ahead in this regard since then, this situation is now changing.

Xiaomi will offer longer update support to its devices powered by the MediaTek processor in the 13 series

For Xiaomi 13T and 13T Pro, powered by the MediaTek processor, the company promised to receive 4 years of major Android operating system updates and 5 years of Android security updates. What’s notable about the update promise, however, is that it only applies to the Xiaomi 13T series and not the Xiaomi 13 series, which was launched with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor earlier this year.

Xiaomi promises only 3 years of major Android updates and 5 years of Android security updates for Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Ultra, powered by the Snsapdragon processor. Thus, with the Xiaomi 13 series, MediaTek had longer software support for the first time compared to flagship devices powered by Snapdragon in 2023.
